Vic Okerlund’s core passion is to help organizations “grow” their people - make them “bigger”, more resilient, more effective and more capable of delivering excellent results, effective and powerful conversations and sustainable performance. She believes work life balance, resilience and integration with core values are central to how we can live and work better, more fully and with more joy.
Corporate, Coaching and Consulting Experience
Vic Okerlund has a 25-year career in project management, HR management consulting and leadership development/coaching across industries and has worked on projects which required difficult conversations, strategic communication and managing conflicting agendas. Her work with coaching clients often includes these challenges and requires clients to shift their thinking as they discover new ways of working. While the types of projects she has managed are largely in human resources, performance management, total rewards and process implementation, they have necessarily required her to work within the broader contexts of employee dynamics, leadership culture, systems and practices, conflicting loyalties and strategic initiatives in service to organizational results and humane work places.
She often uses a process called The Immunity to Change in her work with her clients which helps them see why they are not making the changes they so dearly want to make. She currently serves on the faculty at Harvardx “Unlocking the Immunity to Change” as a Harvard Teaching Fellow and coach.
At the core of her interdisciplinary approach to coaching is her commitment to meeting her clients where they are stuck and to play with “safe-to-fail” experiments, as a way of shifting how they see their own possibilities. Her goal is to provide enough challenge and support so that clients experience more satisfaction and commitment and are able produce more value for the organization and/or life.
An avid student of leadership, organizational behavior, adult human development, psychology and work life balance, Ms. Okerlund is continually integrating new theories and research which serve to extend her perspectives and value to her colleagues and the leaders and individuals with whom she works.
In the past, she has worked for Watson Wyatt (Sr. Compensation Consultant and Project Mgr), Microsoft (HR Specialist), and Prudential (HR Specialist) and earlier as a counselor, teacher and respite care provider.
She has also been instrumental in founding and directing a number of community initiatives requiring work across entities (schools, hospitals, networks, and fire and safety organizations) and has served on the advisory board of Providence Hospice of Seattle.
